FSC certificate - Timbro has the necessary experience and knowledge

The FSC certificate is a mandatory requirement from the majority of log buyers and processors. Most Latvian and European log processors cannot accept roundwood if it does not have an FSC certificate, which is called FSC CW (Chain of Custody). Consultants at the Timbro Rural Property Advisory Center have extensive experience working with FSC certification, and have also completed FSC certification and audit training with FSC accredited auditors. This experience and knowledge helps to responsibly and wisely manage the forests of Timbro's clients, ensuring the highest possible profit while adhering to sustainable management standards.

What is an FSC certificate?

There are two Forest Certification organizations in the world and in Latvia - PEFC and FSC, currently, however, all log receiving points require specifically FSC as mandatory. Only about 10% of the world's forests are certified, most of which are in developed countries. Approximately 70%, which is 300 million hectares, are certified in accordance with PEFC requirements.

The FSC certificate is a forest land certification standard created by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) organization. FSC is an international non-profit organization established to promote responsible forest management. The FSC certificate ensures that the origin of wood-related products is traced and comes from sustainably managed forests with the aim of providing social, environmental and economic benefits to society.

PEFC (Programme of the Endorsement of Forest Certification) is an international non-profit organization that promotes sustainable forest management, founded in 1999, with the aim of promoting sustainable forestry practices in forest management.

Forest management and supply chain certificates

Both organizations have two types of certificates - forest management and supply chain certificates, of which the most common at the moment is the supply chain certificate, which monitors that the wood is obtained in a responsible, legal way, observing sustainable forest management, and also provides the opportunity to trace the wood supply chain to a specific forest. To obtain a forest management or wood supply chain certificate, you must contact the accredited certification bodies, which will assess whether the company meets the standards to be granted the necessary certificate.

What is a Chain of Custody certificate?

A Chain of Custody certificate – certifies that throughout the processing cycle, the wood is traced to a specific forest property, sustainable forest management principles are observed, and certified wood is not mixed with non-certified wood. In addition, the Chain of Custody certificate certifies that the delivered product is fully or partially produced from wood materials obtained from a sustainably managed and certified forest. Chain of Custody certificates can be obtained by forest management, logging and wood processing companies.
